【Life Goes (ひきこもりのぼやき) 】はもともと2001年７月ぐらいには骨組みができた。一番最初にaiwaのポケットタイプのtape recorderにリフとメロディを録音した当時を回想してみよう。そういえば旅行してAthensに帰るときに、Virginia州のSharlottesvilleのグレイハウンドバスのオフィス内でバスを待っている時に出来たんだった。近くにdowntownとUniversity of Virginiaがあって、けっこうこじんまりした小さな町という雰囲気があった。その当時のJefeとあと２人の友達とその友達のEileenをあてにしてけっこう行き当たりばったり的な旅行だったな。泊めてもらった家がばかでかくて、プールやビリヤード台があったっけ。庭に寝っ転がって見上げた星空が、空中一面に、そこら中に、見える範囲全体に、星がたくさんばらまかれてあってきれいだったな。ある日のパーティで起きたらプール際の白いビーチベンチみたいな寝っ転がれる椅子の上でギター抱えて寝てたんだと気がついた。スタジアムバンドになったDave Matthews BandのDaveが働いていたバーのMillersはここだよと教えてもらったり、アイリッシュぽい黒髪のキュートな子と村上春樹の本の批評したり。バーで演奏したり。ストリートでBuskingしたり。そういえばBuju Bantonのコンサートをただみしたっけな。楽しかった思い出だ。いつかまたその頃のみんなに会いたいな。こんな事を書いていると【一期一会】をトピックにそのうち何か書こうかな。
【Life Goes】 のピアノはジャズっぽいのりに仕上がって満足している。ドラムのビートがしっくり来るのに手間取ったな。そのドラムビートにあわせるベースのGroove感をMIDIで出すのが大変だった。お金が貯まったら楽器のベースが欲しいと思う。誰かくれる人はいないかい？

【Meditation】を演奏したときはうっちーがドラムをたたいてくれた。ありがとう。
7〜10の曲はEugeneがギターをアドリブで弾いてくれた。ありがとう。
毎月こうして演奏する機会を与えてくれるLemon Pieにも感謝。
一度書いてしまった曲は、より多くの時間を新しい曲を創ったり録音作業に時間を費やす為、練習が全然出来ていないのが現状だ。そこで、lemon Pieでは気軽に人前で演奏出来る場が提供されていて、そこで毎月演奏することは、手っ取り早く上達するための近道だと思う。今回は長い間演奏していなかった曲を何曲か演奏できて楽しかった。次回も、今回演奏出来なかった古い曲を引っ張り出してきてチャレンジしようかと思う。レパートリーはたくさんあるからね。
今回は新しい友達ができ輪が広がって良かったね。みんなまた来月もよろしく。

【3rd tempo baby】 はシンプルなギターリフとヴォーカルメロディがあって、とりあえずメトロノームに合わせて録音して、他のトラックを重ねていった。ここ最近頭の中を彷徨いていた曲ようやくしっかりした形に出来た。イメージとしてあったのは３拍子のワルツに加えて、その頃見たフランス映画の「アメリ」の色と音階の印象と、近所の沖縄料理屋から流れてくる沖縄風のフレージングと、途中からディストーションギターで「じゃらーん」と盛り上がる雰囲気があった。それを全部一緒に聴きたかった。そのイメージにそって創っていくと何となく形になった。そして歌詞が問題だった。中々思い浮かばない。所々浮かんでもつながらない。瞑想しよう。駄目だ、集中できない、雑音だらけだ。ぼつにして、やり直して、やっとできた。結局音楽とその原動力になっているスピリットを謳歌するような感じにできあがった。良かった。良しとしよう。

Thank you for giving me these challenges(^_=)!

【転機（雨）】は日本で免許を取るために新潟へ合宿に行った頃にできた曲だ。2001年の後半頃だったっけな。色々生活に変化があってそんな心情の時に出来たわけだ。レゲエぽいリズム感がライブで演奏しているときに気持ちいいんだなこれが。最近のアコギナイトやオープンマイクで演奏する機会がある時は、この曲を一発目に持ってくる。次回はLemon Pieで10/16 Sunday に演奏予定。この曲はけっこうパーカッションのトラックを重ねたので音を分離する為にミックス作業がとまどった。まだ手の入れようがありそうだな。そのうち新しいPlug inを手に入れたらちょっと手を加えてみようと思う。
すべての曲について言えることだが、やっぱりメジャーレーベルから出ているアーティスト、例えば最近聴いているCDでいえば、Atlanta出身のOutkastや Jay-Z や Beatlesの曲ばかりの【I am Sam】のSoundtrackと比べると、音がぺらぺら薄いんだよな。機材の違いもあるだろうけど、きっとやりようによってはどうにかなるんじゃないかと思う。そこで、コンプレッサーが欲しいと思うのだが、Sony OxfordかMcDSPのCompressor Bank Leが気になる。値段から行ってMcDSPの方をきっと購入するだろう。他に何かお勧めはあるかな？

【Dive In】に関しては取り立てて言うことがあまりない。夏の季節に暑くダンスして盛り上がれそうなできあがりを意識しながら、ループをどんどん重ねていったら出来た。次のループミュージックは秋の季節感を意識しながら作ろうと思う。

I am very close to finishing up 3 more songs, and have been constructing the basic frame for about 10 more songs. I would like to introduce to you couple of working titles of these songs.

[Joe Gonzalez] is pretty close to finishing up. Only words on vocal tracks are needed, and then of course mixing and mastering will be waiting though.

[Hey ray sunny day] is the second closest to finishing up.

[Papaya Panama] is going to be the song I want to work on immediately.

[Bamboo Forest] comes the top priority as well.

[My time fine time] has been on a waiting list for a long time, but I am delaying to work on it because I have some other shit to take care of I guess. Sorry, don’t get mad dear [My time fine time], I will get you as soon as I could.

Then [The most beautiful lullaby] is going to be one of the best songs I will ever have written. I have been having this song sketch for a long long time, way back since I was still recording on Tascam 414, the 4 track tape recorder I spent so much time with while in Athens. I still can’t get it right. Why god, why spirit? (^。^) Eventually I will when my skills are sufficient level.

Now I am sleepy and my eyes are burning dry because of gazing at the computer screen for long hours. So this is it for now. Probably tomorrow, I am going to play fotsal. Weee.(^_=)


Farewell, good night.

Some songs have been redone on vocal tracks, and redone the mixing process. [Rely On] is one of those songs. I did rerecord the vocal track to get more powerful and more in-your-face-screaming type of vocal, I think I had captured all right. This version you hear is closer to the sound image I have. So I am happy for this accomplishment. Besides, I have again remixed [Funky Sky Walker], [Fly Together], and [Steamy Augusta] to get them closer to the sounds I am looking for. The outcome is Okay. I am not completely satisfied, but I did my best for now, for my limited equipments and time. I mean, these songs have been already structured enough. So why don’t I move on to next unfinished songs.

Due to the capacity of this website, I had to delete 8 songs which were recorded in Athens, Georgia, and independently released around 2000 to 2001.
